The Office of Consumer Protection (OCP) is the Montgomery County agency responsible for enforcing consumer protection laws prohibiting unfair and deceptive business acts to ensure a fair marketplace for consumers and businesses. The office was established in 1971. In addition to investigating thousands of consumer complaints each year, OCP provides education and outreach programs to the community, licenses motor vehicle repair facilities, towing companies, new home builders, appliance repair firms, and pawn & consignment shops, and provides advocacy in legislative and energy & environmental matters.
