Pinellas County Justice & Consumer Services celebrates NCPW 2014

Pinellas County’s Justice & Consumer Services, Office of Consumer Protection is joining federal, state and local government agencies nationwide to celebrate National Consumer Protection Week 2014, which runs from March 2 to 8. In recognition, Pinellas County Consumer Protection has planned several events, including public presentations and information booths to provide free resources to help people protect their privacy, manage money and debt, avoid identity theft, understand credit and steer clear of frauds and scams. All events are FREE and open to the public.

Friday, February 28

Noon to 1 p.m., Pinellas County and Hillsborough County consumer protection investigators will partner for a phone bank on ABC Action News (Channel 28). Investigators will answer consumer questions live on the air.   

Monday, March 3                           

Clearwater’s Aging Well Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road, Clearwater
Noon to 1:00 p.m., Health screenings for blood pressure & vision.

1:00 to 2:30 p.m., Presentations by Pinellas County Consumer Protection, Clearwater Police Department and Florida Department of Financial Services.

There will also be door prizes. Registration is suggested. Call (727) 724-3070 to register.

Tuesday, March 4                           

Tarpon Springs Library, 138 East Lemon St., Tarpon Springs

1:00 to 4 p.m., Information booth with free consumer resources. An investigator will be available to answer consumer-related questions.  

3:00 to 4:00 p.m., “Protect Your Personal Information-Identity Theft” presentation. 

Wednesday, March 5    

Indian Rocks Beach Library, 1507 Bay Palm Blvd., Indian Rocks Beach

        10:00 to 11:00 a.m., “Deter, Detect, Defend-Against Identity Theft” presentation.

Thursday, March 6

Clearwater’s Aging Well Center, 1501 N. Belcher Road, Clearwater

11:00 a.m. to noon, “Smart Shopping” presentation. 

Friday, March 7

Enoch Davis Center, 1111 18th Ave. S., St. Petersburg

9:00 a.m. to noon, Consumer information booth to provide free consumer resources.
