Department of Consumer Protection Launches “Every Age, Every Stage” Campaign for Consumer Protection Week

In observance of National Consumer Protection Week, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection is launching an outreach campaign encouraging consumers to learn how to avoid frauds and scams and be informed.

Federal, State, & City Agencies in New York Name Top Consumer Complaint Categories

On Tuesday, March 5, staff from the Federal Trade Commission, Better Business Bureau, and other government and private groups will gather in New York City to announce the top consumer frauds and complaints of the past year.  The speakers will explain the top categories of complaints each organization received in 2012. Local consumers will be on hand to talk about their experiences with some of these scams.

The National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) is a non-profit association of attorneys and consumer advocates committed to representing customers’ interests. Our members are private and public sector attorneys, legal services attorneys, law professors and law students whose primary focus is the protection and representation of consumers. NACA’s members focus much of their efforts on advocating for individuals who have been victimized by fraudulent, abusive, or predatory business practices.

Understand Your Basic Telemarketing Rights

How can you tell the difference between a legitimate telemarketing call and a scam? If you think it's difficult, you're not alone. Three-quarters of the adults recently surveyed by Consumer Federation of America said that they thought it was hard for most consumers to tell. And while 9 in 10 said that they were concerned about the possibility of fraud when they get telemarketing calls from companies they haven't done business with before, many did not know their basic telemarketing rights. Knowing your rights can help you spot a scammer.

If you are in Washington D.C. on March 8, you’re invited to attend a Consumer Protection Summit presented by the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force’s Consumer Protection Working Group.
