New York Department of State, Division of Consumer Protection

The New York State Department of State, one of the oldest and most diverse agencies in state government, works to make New York a more welcoming, equitable, and prosperous place for all who call it home. By the broad nature of its work, the NY Department of State touches the lives of nearly every person living and working in the Empire State. One of several divisions within the Department, the Division of Consumer Protection is responsible for advocating on behalf of consumers in utility rate making proceedings; delivering educational presentations; disseminating product recall and scam alerts; and, creating public and private partnerships to advance consumer protection information on issues relating to identity theft prevention and mitigation, scam prevention and financial literacy.
