Guest Post: LawHelp.org Offers Legal Help to Consumers

Each year, thousands of people will face a consumer problem with a legal dimension – for example homeowners dealing with loan modification scams, or people with debts incurred because of identity theft or a medical emergency. Finding help with these issues can be challenging, and for families with limited means, a single incident of identity theft or being victimized by a scam can wipe out hard-earned resources and put their financial stability at risk.

LawHelp.org connects to state-specific sites that provide referrals to local legal aid and public interest law offices, basic information about legal rights, court forms, self-help information, court information, links to social service agencies, and more.

Many state LawHelp.org sites also feature free, interactive self-help resources powered by LawHelp Interactive. Though LawHelp Interactive, users can easily assemble legal documents and court forms online, for example a cease contact letter to a creditor or an answer to a complaint in a consumer debt case. LawHelp Interactive also offers interactive forms for use by legal aid staff and pro bono lawyers assisting people who are representing themselves.

LawHelp.org and LawHelp Interactive are operated by Pro Bono Net, a nonprofit leader in access to justice solutions, in partnership with hundreds of legal aid, pro bono, court, and library partners across the country, and with support from the Legal Services Corporation. Visit LawHelp.org today and let us know what you think! We’d love to hear from you.
